Home remedies for Acne

Acne nowadays affect a lots of people and am a victim too. Many factors can contribute to the development of acne including diet, using makeup or cleansers, hormonal changes, infections and genetics. Whenever it is that time of the month I get acne on my forehead and people asking “What is wrong with your face?” is annoying. Not only that looking at your face in the mirror and taking pictures of yourself gets annoying too. So I tried doing a research on acne management in a way that wouldn’t cost me so much money because lets be real acne treatments can be expensive and we ain’t trying to spend so much money here. And here I will share with you guys what I found most effective and think what would be effective.

  • NEVER TOUCH YOUR FACE WITH YOUR HANDS

Acne is caused by bacteria and your hands touch everything so you’re just transferring bacteria to your face. It seems hard not to do this try really hard not to touch your face because this is where it begins and there you have one less bad habit.

  • DRINK MORE WATER

Acne is caused by toxins in our body so it is essential to get those toxins out of your body and water helps the process. Many people don’t like to drink water but water is essential to this to the process of getting rid of acne so get on it! Try drinking more than 8 cups of water. If you don’t like how water tastes you can try cutting and putting strawberries, cucumber, blackberries, raspberries, lemon and other fruits so it would change the taste.

  • SLEEPING

The other cause of acne is stress so it is important to get enough to sleep. While you’re sleeping your body detoxify, repair tissues, rebalance hormones and does several functions so it is important you sleep.

  • AVOID PLASTIC CONTAINERS

This was shocking to me because I have been using plastic containers a lot, but plastic containers contain a chemical called xenoestrogen, which is like the hormone estrogen. Our body produces estrogen but too much estrogen promotes acne. So when storing water or food use glass containers.

  • CUT BACK ON DAIRY, WHEAT, REFINED SUGAR AND GLUTEN

If your acne occurs on your cheeks here is your solution. Acne developing on cheeks is a sign of food sensitivity. These diets are highly acidic and allergenic foods that can be hard on your digestive and the liver.

Drinking alcohol often also contributes to the breakout of acne so cut back on alcoholic drinks too.

  • HONEY AND CINNAMON

Honey and cinnamon, both are sources of antioxidants. Also have the ability to fight bacteria and reduce inflammation. Before using this mix make sure you’re not allergic to both honey and cinnamon. Try the mix on the back of your hand and if your skin turns red don’t proceed.

How to make honey and cinnamon mask

Mix two tablespoons honey and one teaspoon cinnamon together
Cleanse your face and apply the mix on your face and leave it on for 10-15 minutes
Rinse the mix thoroughly with a lukewarm water.

If you’re allergic to cinnamon you can just use honey as a remedy for acne. Use a makeup brush or your hand (make sure to wash your hands before you touch your face or the honey) and apply the honey to the affected area. Apply it at night before you go to sleep.

  • PAPAYA

Papaya is a fruit rich in antioxidants such as vitamin A and C. It also contains papain, an enzyme known for its anti-inflammatory properties. You can just incorporate papaya into your diet to use it as a remedy to acne or you can mash it and apply it directly on your face, leave it for 10-15 minutes before rinsing with lukewarm water. Apply it for a week once a day for a better result.

  • MOISTURIZE WITH ALOE VERA

Use of Aloe Vera gel is getting popular these days. It is commonly used to treat rashes, burns and other skin conditions. One of the uses of Aloe Vera is to fight acne. Aloe Vera contains salicylic acid and sulfur which are used in treatments of acne.

How to use Aloe Vera as a home remedy for acne

Scrape the aloe Vera gel from its leaves

Apply the gel directly to your face as a moisturizer.

If you’re buying the aloe Vera gel from stores make sure it doesn’t contain any other ingredients.

  • MINT

Mint contains antioxidants, salicylic acid, Vitamin A and C and Omeg-3 fatty acid.

To use this as a remedy for acne

Blend the mint leaves and mix it with

the right amount of honey

Apply the mixture to affected areas and leave it for 15-20 minutes
Rinse with lukewarm water and moisturize afterwards.

  • Aspirin

Yes, Aspirin! I really didn’t expect this either. Aspirin contains salicylic acid which as we have seen is a remedy for acne.

  • How to use

Mash the aspirin and mix it with water until you create a paste
Apply on the affected areas and leave it overnight (if your skin is sensitive, rinse with lukewarm water after few minutes.)

  • USING SKIN AND NAIL SUPPLEMENTS

I got this from Sarah Betts a YouTuber, she talked about how she suffered with acne and after using skin and nail treatments not only her skin improved but so did her hair. there you got yourself an incentive.
